Angioplasty & Stenting is also performed by radial as well as femoral route if deemed necessary. Patient and his attendants are shown the angiography results on the cath lab screen and counseled regarding further treatment. If angioplasty or stenting is required it can be performed in the same sitting if patient wants so.
During Angioplasty a tube like 2 mm catheter is introduced in the artery and through this catheter a hair thin wire is passed in the coronary or heart artery which is blocked. Then over this wire balloon or other devices are taken in and angioplasty done by inflating balloon with liquid. After balloon inflation a stent is implanted inside the heart artery to keep it patent and open. The Stent is permanently left inside the artery of the heart. The stent can be metallic ( bare metal stent) or medicated ( Drug coated stent) or latest Biodegradable or absorbable stent ( Absorb stent). The angioplasty procedure is almost painless and patient usually remains asymptomatic.
